IT Risk Register
Typical IT and cyber security risks with verification, evidence and NIS2 reference. The feasibility and impact shall be assessed at five levels and the risks shall appear in a coloured 5x5 matrix according to their value.
How to assess the risk
The risk value is the probability multiplied by the impact: method 1 to 25 follows ISO 31000, ISO/IEC 27005 and NIST SP 800-30 and the register supports the risk analysis required by Article 21 (2) (a) of the NIS2 Directive.
| 1 - rare | 2 - unlikely | 3 - possible | 4 - reliable | 5 - almost safe | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 - critical | 5 | 10 | 15 | 20 | 25 |
| 4 - significant | 4 | 8 | 12 | 16 | 20 |
| 3 - medium | 3 | 6 | 9 | 12 | 15 |
| 2 - minor | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 |
| 1 - negligible | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
Row effects, column probability. The number in the cell is the risk value.
Risk level
- Low 1-4 Adopt or review once a year.
- Medium 5-9 Treatment in plan with responsible and deadline.
- High 10-16 Processing shall inform management as soon as possible.
- Critical 17-25 Immediate action and management decision.
Potential
- 1 - rare
- This may occur less frequently than every 5 years.
- 2 - not expected
- Every 2 to 5 years.
- 3 - possible
- Once a year or two.
- this is the absolute value of the liabilities sensitive to the spread risk on bonds and loans
- Several times a year.
- 5 - almost safe
- Every month or already happens.
Impact
- 1 - minor
- Not noticeable for customers, recovered in a few hours.
- 2 - small
- A short disturbance to one process, without data loss.
- 3 - medium
- Service disturbed until day, limited data volume.
- 4 - major
- Slide or leak of personal data for several days.
- securitisation positions
- Serious malfunction or financial loss, reporting a significant incident, threat to the company's activity.
The scale is the starting point. The descriptions and frequencies shall be adapted to their organisation and records that accept residual risk.
